Moderates ask…
Why do polarizing candidates keep getting elected?
Activist groups are a key reason: They have passion for their cause and align themselves with candidates willing to support their political objectives. Their causes are often out of the mainstream, so to ensure success, they give time, money and effort to ensure their candidates make it through party primaries and win election to office.
Why is it difficult to elect moderate candidates to office?
Moderate voters are a fractionalized group made up of Democrats, Republicans and independents holding common values, but prioritize issues differently.
- Moderate Democrats place a higher priority on social issues.
- Moderate Republicans place a higher priority on fiscal issues.
- Moderate Independents priorities are varied.
Moderate voters often skip voting in primaries and other non-presidential elections. This lack of engagement allows fringe candidates to move forward.
We cannot continue to allow minor differences in priorities to keep us divided. This means supporting candidates with socially compassionate, fiscally responsible, and constitutionally adherent platforms, even if it means voting across party lines.
Regardless of priorities, moderate voters share the values of social compassion, fiscal responsibility, and constitutional adherence. By emphasizing our common values, Purple Values seeks to unify moderate voters based on our commonalities, moving everyone’s priorities forward.
What can I do to help change the political discourse?
Politicians respond to the politically active – those that volunteer, donate and vote, especially those who vote in primary elections. They know the support of politically active voters gets them nominated and elected to office. In order to move candidates and the political discourse toward the center, especially during primaries, a strong and active centrist organization is required. Purple Values is that organization. And Purple Values needs you to click here and provide your support.
